OPEN, International Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations celebrates its fifteenth anniversary from August 30 to September 30 in Venice Lido and the Island of San Servolo in parallel to the Exhibition of Cinematographic Art - La Biennale di Venezia.
The exhibition, conceived and curated by Paolo De Grandis, co-curated by Carlotta Scarpa is organized by Arte Communications in collaboration with the City of Venice - Department of Culture.

The fifteenth edition of OPEN will be characterized by two special projects that they defile themselves through strong visual and material of the sculpture and the lightness of the fabric of the flags.

In fact, the sculptures are made of steel, huge mirrored forms in the making, Korean artist Lim Dong-Lak with the curation of Grace Rim, and the flags carried by international artists including stand out the series created by Yoko Ono and curated by Jon Hendricks visible in S. Mary Elizabeth.

The flags, a suggestion, the memory of an event unique, extraordinarily dramatic - in 2002, Paolo De Grandis was European Commissioner for the Flag Art Festival Seoul on the occasion of the FIFA World Cup Korea / Japan. Thousands of flags, banners, scrolls, arts and literature from around the world, captured in the signs and entrusted to the wind after ten years and inspired by the direct path of OPEN.

There will be twenty artists who will compete with this unique format to return unpublished interpretations and readings of his art: in addition to the special project by Yoko Ono, the flags on display at the Lido will be works by Ronni Ahmmed, Efi Halivopoulou, Shakhawat Hossain Razib, Ursula Huber , Nora Iniesta, Fotini Kariotaki, Maria Kompatsiari, Lindy Lee, Yang Mian, Artemis Potamianou, Fernando Reyes, Daniel Rothbart, Virginia Ryan, Aspa Savvidi, Anita Sieff, Lia Wei and Zhang Qiang, Under Construction group.

In parallel to this path, in which steel and fabric take possession of land and sky, creating a bizarre vertical axis through the streets of the Lido, OPEN will exhibit the works of Mahedi Anjuman, Andreas Kühnlein, Cornelia Kubler Kavanagh and Jia Liu, cherishing and marking the usual attention to the sculpture in its most varied and innovative.

Young artists from the University of Thessaloniki, with the curating Christos Savvidis, will present a site specific project, and Isle Interactive S. Servolo, which for the past five years has promising young art, involving the Departments of Art, Architecture, Theatre and Cinema.

Original, versatile as innovative, OPEN has a long history that has seen the participation of more than seventy countries, one hundred and fifty four hundred artists and curators of international renown, and has also represented for ten artists, a privileged platform and a springboard for important further participation at the Venice Biennale.

OPEN creates synergies and collaborations such as curators with international presences that are renewed and repeated over the years as Nevia Capello, Johnson Chang, Jon Hendricks, Ebadur Rahman, Christos Savvidis, Gloria Wallis and new investments like Grace Rim and Lv Peng for this fifteenth edition.

Since its inception in 1998 the exhibition OPEN, besides having established itself as one of the main events of the Venetian calendar exhibition nationally and internationally gaining considerable critical acclaim, the public and among professionals, has received the patronage of the following institutions : Ministry of Heritage and Culture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embassies of participating countries, Veneto Region, Province of Venice and the Venice Municipality. It is also noted that the last five editions of OPEN have been awarded the Silver Plaque of the President of the Republic, an honor that demonstrates the commitment of the organizers and the value of the event.
